Match Recap - San Diego Wave FC vs Racing Louisville FC - Nov. 3 at Lynn Family Stadium

All smiles for San Diego Wave FC on the Final game of the season. Ending on a high note with a 3-1 score versus Racing Louisville FC.

Both teams were playing their last game of the season with an unexpected change of schedule. What was supposed to be an away game for Louisville turned into a home match versus the Wave. For Racing Louisville fans, the home game came with quite a few upsets from being left out of the playoffs to being beaten on their last game of the season. It’s never easy for teams to miss the playoffs, or lose for that matter, but losing on the last game of the season is never an easy one.

Game Day Notes

San Diego’s Forward Jaedyn Shaw scored in the first 3 minutes of the game helping shape the rhythm of the game. At just 19 years old, Shaw has been a great player for San Diego and leading Goal Scorer earning her fourth this season. Shaw has been making history with the NWSL for most goals scored by a teenager bringing her career total to 13 goals.

In the 22nd minute, Louisville commits a foul in a dangerous spot. María Sánchez, Mexico's women's national team player scored her first regular season goal. A perfectly placed Left Footed shot kissed the corner of the goal post and went in giving San Diego Wave the 2-0 lead. The Direct Free Kick goal was a first for María Sánchez’s NWSL Career and for San Diego Wave’s regular Season history.

In the 68th Minute Racing Louisville scored giving them a chance to draw at home. San Diego’s attacking pressure helped them secure the victory with a goal from the substitute Savannah McCaskill ending the game with a 3-1 Score. McCaskill’s goal helped the club earn three goals for the first time this season in regular season play. Besides the free kick, both goals were assisted by Delphine Cascarino who has been an excellent signing for San Diego wave.

Overall the Wave end on a good note and look to turn things around next season. Jaedyn Shaw in a post game interview briefly talked about the situation at Snapdragon Stadium.
