This week ahead of their Final game of the season, we got a chance to talk to ACFC head Coach Becki Tweed and ACFC Forward Messiah Bright. Angel City FC face Portland Thorns on Friday November 1st scheduled for 7pm at Providence Park.
Back in September, ACFC drawed 2-2 against Portland Thorns at BMO Stadium. Alyssa Thompson scored first in the 9th minute of the game. Followed by two goals from Portland. The game ended in a draw making Fridays game even more unpredictable.
Player Availability
Earlier in the week, Coach Becki told the media there would be no surprises in available players.
“Yes everyone is that is expected to be available is available” “No Surprises.”
On Game Day, ACFC released a Player Availability Report missing key players Madison Curry, Ali Riley, Jun Endo, Merritt Mathias and Kennedy Fuller who is out on International duty.
Alyssa Thompson is coming back from international break where she scored her first goal with Team USA. Messiah Bright is definitely a player looking to get back onto the score board, this season hasn’t been full of goals and would be a confidence booster for next season. Christen Press was back at training earlier in the week and always a danger on the field. Sydney Leroux, who recently signed a contract extension with ACFC had an absolute stunner last game helping ACFC secure a draw.
With so many other talented individuals on the field, ACFC is super dangerous offensively.

Champion Mentality
When speaking with ACFC Head Coach Becki Tweed she mentioned building an identity within the club, and building a style that would be sustainable for the future of the club. Aware of not gaining anything from the results Friday night, she expresses the team’s championship mentality and playing to win against Portland.
“You always go into every game with the mindset that you want to win. That is no different for us this week.” “We’re going to go out and leave everything we have out on the field. We want to leave a good reflection of the season and of ourselves.” “We will go into this game like it is our championship game.”
