The 2024 MLS cup Eastern Conference Semi-Final
New York City FC hosted their city rivals New York Red Bulls in the first ever playoffs Hudson River Derby.
These two teams meet with an All-time record of 10 W- 11 D- 4 L. In regular season points, New York City FC finished in 6th place and NY Red Bulls in 7th.
New York City FC went into the Semi-Final as the favorite with home field advantage at Citi Field. NYCFC Head coach Nicholas Cushing told the media he expected a huge NYCFC turnout.

“I'm really excited for this game, and I think these are the type of games growing up, especially the two teams from New York, that you kind of dream of playing. Now it's a playoff game, so it adds a little something else to it, but everybody's just really excited. I don't feel like anybody's too tense about the moment. We're all just kind of enjoying it.”

New York Red Bulls scored in the 16’ minute by Mid Fielder Felipe Carballo followed by a goal in 25’ minute by forward Dante Vanzeir.
In a post game interview with NYCFC Head Coach Nicholas Cushing, he explained the multiple chances New York City had and the disappointing outcome for the fans that ended the teams playoffs run.

New York City FC Defender Thiago Martins post match thanked the fans and mentioned the next steps would be to prepare for the next season.

3 days later, NYCFC sent out a Press Release stating Nick Cushing would no longer continue with the club.
