Historically, this will be the 26th time these two teams meet with an All-time record of 10 W- 11 D- 4 L. In regular season points, New York City FC finished in 6th place and NY Red Bulls in 7th.
It’s no surprise both teams are excited for this game, but specifically this game because no matter the history, only one will continue their journey to MLS cup.

NYCFC Head Coach Nicholas Cushing told the media a few days before the Derby that he expects 25,000 fans backing NYCFC Saturday.
“I'm sure we're probably going to have 25,000 fans behind us that, hopefully if we can get on the front foot, we can make that 25,000 sound like 45,000.”
Coach Nicholas also shared the significance of this game and what the fans support means to the team and their performance.
“We have to play our part in getting the atmosphere, in delivering the performance, and in playing our way. Together, if our fans bring the passion and are right behind us from the start and we play on the front foot, I think it will give us every chance of putting in a good performance.”

New York City FC Midfielder Justin Haak also gave the media his thoughts on the first ever Hudson River Derby.
“I'm really excited for this game, and I think these are the type of games growing up, especially the two teams from New York, that you kind of dream of playing. Now it's a playoff game, so it adds a little something else to it, but everybody's just really excited. I don't feel like anybody's too tense about the moment. We're all just kind of enjoying it.”
