USWNT vs England at Wembley 2024

The U.S Women’s team traveled to London to face England for the first leg of the European tour. Even though these were friendly games, they tested both teams at the highest level. Both teams have so much talent and there is a reason they are ranked #1 & #2 in the world. This camp has consisted of new players and one key player saying goodbye.

The USWNT Hosted a press conference at The World’s End Pub in Camden which is home to U.S Head Coach Emma Hayes.  At the Press Conference, Emma talked about being competitive, women’s sports, coming to win, and playing under the lights at Wembley for new players.

On Monday November 25th, 2024, U.S soccer in a press release announced U.S Women’s National Team Goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher was retiring from International Soccer. Alyssa would finish her international career at the end of the European tour. Alyssa has been praised by her teammates since her announcement. Most recently Alyssa helped Team USA win Gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In another Press Conference after her retirement announcement, Alyssa stated she will continue playing with Chicago Red Stars and looks forward to opportunities with former teammates who have gone on to do great things beyond soccer.

“Seeing everybody find their different niche of like what they want to do post playing, I think for me right now obviously I still have the next NWSL season to continue to prepare for and look forward to with Chicago. So not fully done playing yet.”

San Diego Wave FC’s Defender Naomi Girma talked to the media about her excitement going into the England Game.

“It’s a big game an exciting atmosphere to be here in England and um yeah they’re are a top side so I’m really looking forward to the game.” -Naomi Girma

Arsenal Women’s player Emily Fox also talked to the media at training ahead of the game versus England at Wembley Stadium. Emily faced some of her current teammates who play for the England national team.

“That’s one reason why I came here, just in terms of being able to play with some of the best players in the world. Last time I was here they weren’t my teammates and didn’t have a connection or anything so now that I do it is really special to you know play against your teammates in such a historic iconic stadium.” - Emily Fox

More than 80,000 tickets were sold for the U.S vs England match at Wembley Stadium.
